Relating to Stress
I can't take it
any more! the voices in your head scream out in anger. It
has to stop somewhere! Why am I going through this? If
one more bad thing happens to me, I’m going to jump off a
bridge!
Does this sound familiar? If so, then you’re
stressed to your limit and you need some stress management.
It’s time to sit down and relax your mind. If there isn’t
anything you can do at the moment to relieve your problems,
then don’t give up! Instead, do what you can to prevent stress
from causing you harm.
When a person feels over
stressed, it affects the heart, mind and body in many
ways. Stress is going to happen, but what you need to
do is find a way to minimize the source. Learning and relating
to stress is the only possible solution for managing stress,
unless you’re someone who’s made of steel. After you rest for
a while and clear your mind, you can then take a few deep
breaths and review your problem, carefully working your way
through the details.
Are your bills due and the funds
low? Is your bank account nearing an overdraft situation? Is
your child's behavior causing you stress? Decide what the
problems are and review them one at a time to see if you can
pull up resources that will benefit you and minimize
stress.
We know that the list is stressors, since it
causes anxiety, tension, depression, pressure, and so forth.
Therefore, we need to find a way to minimize the
stressors.
Maybe there’s no solution at the
moment; however, it’s probably not the end of the world. You
might be expecting money from your job and the check is late,
so you know the money is coming. This should provide some
relief. However, bank overdrafts have consequences and
sometimes the price is high.
Now we have a real
stress factor looming in front of us. What can we do?
Can we borrow money from a friend or family member? NO. Then
can we find a way to make a few extra bucks to hold the bank
off until the check arrives? Maybe. What if we can’t find the
money to cover the checking account ... then we might be in
trouble. The trouble however is not life threatening, it only
sets us back temporarily. This means we have to budget in the
future to prevent this from happening again.
Sometimes
there are no answers to your problems. Unless the
problem is life threatening, then worry will only cause more
problems, since negative stress affects your body and
mind. If your mind is chaotic and your body is
fighting to control the stress, then it will take all your
energy and eventually turn it into a health issue. If you
can’t change your situation at the moment, then worry isn’t
the answer.
Once you relax and let go, you
might come up with an answer that was previously
overlooked. You may feel the world is tumbling around
you, but the world is still moving forward. If you’re sitting
on a couch in your living room focusing on what you can’t
change, then you’re wasting your time.
Maybe you should
sit down and watch a movie that makes you laugh. Laughter
often takes away pressure. Maybe you can go for a walk, or do
some stretching exercises that will help you relax. If
you’re subject to stress and often find it difficult to cope,
then you might need to consider medications that will help you
stay focused.
Some of us have mental ailments,
medical or chemical imbalances that hinder us from achieving
or thinking clearly. If you find that stressors are constantly
interrupting your life, a visit to the doctor or therapist
might be a great idea. Otherwise, chill, since the control is
out of your hands at this point.
Life is often unfair,
cruel and stressful. It’s therefore essential for us all to
learn stress management techniques that can provide us a more
productive lifestyle. Just remember, the world hasn’t ended
and tomorrow is another day. If you patiently handle your
emotions, then the answers and solutions to your problems will
fall into place at some point.
